Explore scrimshaw, a timeless art, with this intermediate-level kit built around a bone-handled slipjoint folding knife. Scrimshaw is rooted in American history and inspired by 18th-century maritime tradition, and it involves etching detailed designs into bone, ivory and similar materials. This hands-on set supplies everything you need to practice the historical art form on a real knife handle.
Made with makers in mind, the 2-blade slipjoint folder in this kit pairs genuine bone scales with high-quality 440A stainless steel blades. The heat-treated scribe gives you precise control for clean etching, while the India ink brings out your work in rich contrast. Step-by-step instructions and sample artwork are part of the set, which is ideal for hobbyists, knife makers and gunsmiths who want to explore or expand their engraving skills.
You get enough materials to finish the included knife plus several other projects. That makes this kit a great introduction to scrimshaw or a meaningful gift for any craftsman.
