Level II Retention Kits for Upgrading Gun Holsters
Shop Level II retention hardware for holster makers building duty and tactical gun holsters that call for a locking hood or a snap thumb break. Choose hood kits from Talon Retention Systems, Spetz Gear's Speed Lock Gen 2, HOLSTEX® IDX-II™ and WRS for right- or left-hand carry, or thumb break sets that include an IWB Rigid Loop.
For makers supplying law enforcement and military customers, each kit adds a hood or thumb break on top of Level I retention. Talon Retention Systems makes two U.S.A.-built hood kits, a square hood in Black or Coyote Brown and a round hood, each opened by an automatic thumb break release. The HOLSTEX® IDX-II™ mounts to a standardized hole pattern, and its closed nylon composite mechanism requires zero lubrication.
The Speed Lock Gen 2 by Spetz Gear unlocks with a rearward thumb motion suited to chest rig and vest carrier holsters, and its spring-loaded hood opens as the grip is set. Gen 2 also thickens the top strap from .060 to .093 and reinforces the pivot points. Its mounting pattern matches the WRS hood kit, which comes in Standard and Large sizes with all mounting hardware. Thumb break sets, the other route to Level II, come in Black synthetic leather or Black, Coyote or Silver Tegris®, and their integrated snap gives audible and tactile confirmation of engagement.
Most hood kits come in left- and right-hand versions, and thumb break sets offer a Pull-the-Dot hardware choice. Our holster mountings add belt, paddle and MOLLE options for wearing the finished gun holster. For help choosing a hood for a new design, send us a note.
