CURV®, shown here in Coyote Brown, is a self-reinforced, 100% thermoplastic composite material, first introduced in 2007. It gives strong impact resistance and stiffness compared with conventional plastics, and its light weight, strength, and durability make it a real step up from both plastics and traditional composites in many uses. It is made from heat-compacted woven polymer fibers and needs no extra support structure to keep its strength or impact resistance. CURV® brings impact strength, stiffness, weight savings, and recyclability together with a distinctive look, and it can be pressure-thermoformed into complex parts. Its high stiffness and low density allow real weight savings when it replaces traditional plastics and composites. CURV® is pure thermoplastic with no glass fiber, and it is easy to recycle. It has better impact and crack resistance at freezing temperatures, which makes it a strong choice for cold-weather use, and it is chemically inert and unaffected by most solvents and cleaning agents.
Please note that this material is most often used for flat parts in holster making, and it does not thermoform like KYDEX® at the same temperatures. If you are making thermoformed parts from CURV® sheet for the first time, please contact us for thermoforming information and procedures. It can be milled, lasered, or waterjet cut into custom flat parts with high-performance properties.
